Robotic Assisted Surgery Has Arrived at John Flynn Private Hospital

GOLD COAST — Groundbreaking robotic assisted technology is now available at John Flynn Private Hospital with orthopaedic surgeon Dr Jason Tsung for patients undergoing advanced unicompartmental knee replacement and total hip replacement surgery.

Dr Jason Tsung and the robotic arm work together in real time to determine the optimal position for the components of a hip and knee replacement.

“A robotic assisted arm understands the patient’s anatomy, allowing orthopaedic surgeons to perform true unicompartmental knee resurfacing without standard instrumentation so the outcome is truly bone preserving,” Dr Tsung said.

“With total hip replacement, the robotic assisted arm has complete control over the accuracy of the acetabular component positioning, giving patients the confidence of optimal alignment which minimises the risk of complications,” he said.

John Flynn is a 326 bed, acute care hospital located in Tugun, on the southern end of Queensland's Gold Coast.

The campus consists of the main hospital building, a six-storey specialist medical centre, an East Coast Cancer Centre Radiotherapy building and onsite services of radiology (x ray), pathology and the only 24hr pharmacy in the Gold Coast.

John Flynn Private Hospital consulting suites are located at Fred McKay House offering rehabilitation services to assist patients in the recovery process.
